Background

Recently, I ordered two items, each from different vendors, and had to divulge my phone numbers for delivery; at the same time, a friend needed to pick up an item at my house, and I had to give them my phone number too.

This means that I gave my personal phone number to about 3 strangers just because they needed to move some items from point A to point B. I’m not a drug baron, but I'm not perfectly comfortable.

Problem Statement

It is imperative that I need to stop giving my phone numbers out and also make sure that these delivery guys/vendors can reach out to me.

Users need to get contacted by random people because they need to but are uncomfortable sharing their personal phone numbers.

How might we protect people from the risk associated with sharing phone numbers when unavoidable?

Proposed solution

A platform where it is possible to generate a random proxy number for my actual number, this random proxy number could have properties including:

1. Real phone number

2. Time of expiration

3. Channels allowed: SMS

4. Number of uses: reduces when a call is made or an SMS is sent.
